Tomorrow Happens Here – GY&K @ SXSW 2011
At GY&K we pride ourselves on working in a number of different industries. Some companies prefer to hire industry experts or specialists, but we think a diverse client roster is where it’s at. You name it and we’ve probably done it. Did you know our creative VP Elaine Krause designed the New Hampshire license plates? True story.
Although our portfolio is vast, we do focus our proactive outreach. This year we’re continuing to target healthcare, financial services and consumer packaged goods, but we’re also committing more resources to the technology space. The reality is our collective team already has a ton of technology experience including work with Ebay, Skype, IBM, Intel, Virgin, Tyco, Newforma, Velcro, Bittware, M2S and many more. However, we believe there’s an opportunity to grow this part of our business by helping to package and position technology companies in an increasingly cluttered and competitive marketplace.
Over the past few years we’ve built a great relationship with local technology company Dyn Inc. Dyn may be based in NH, but their business is global. We’re proud to have played a very small role in Dyn’s ridiculous growth and now we’re proud to team up with them at one of the world’s foremost technology conferences.
If you’re not familiar with SXSW (‘South by South West’), their tagline says it all – Tomorrow Happens Here. For one week in March (25 years in a row), a group of people gather in Austin, Texas to share ideas and experience the creative economy in all its glory. While Dyn and others are drawn to Austin for the technology, or ‘interactive’ portion of the conference, SXSW is actually four conferences in one – interactive, film, music and, for the first time this year, fashion.
Last year I traveled down to SXSW with a few friends, including Kyle York, Dyn’s VP of Sales and Marketing. It was the first time either of us had attended the conference and we were blown away by the number and scale of the events, the quality networking and the overall awesomeness that is SXSW.
When we returned last spring Kyle immediately started planning a Dyn SXSW event for 2011. GY&K jumped on board as a partner along with CloudCamp, an unconference focused on cloud computing technology.
The Cloudy Awards @ Dyn 138 Listening Lounge will celebrate some of the most innovative technology companies in the world, while showcasing an impressive lineup of emerging musicians. Throughout the event, we’ll recognize the leaders in cloud computing, share innovative ideas and rock out.
Beyond the work we did supporting the creative side of the event, GY&K also helped coordinate the lineup of bands that will provide the entertainment. Many are alumni of the popular 138 Listening Lounge, an invite only house concert series hosted by GY&K President Travis York.
